SARATOGA TOWN HALL

SD Atelier - Architecture, CLA SITE and Excel Engineering were solicited to perform an Architectural Concept Study for a New Town Hall in the Town of Saratoga.

The Phase One objective (study) was to develop a programmatic and objective means to design an economically feasible building / site concept which would meet the program needs for the present and future Town functions and user groups as defined in this study. This study occurred over the course of 7 months, starting in May 2006 – up to January 2007.

This Phase – One Study centered on obtaining information for three different sites; one of which featured two design concepts. Those four different concepts were:

-          New Town Hall on 30 Ferry Street.

-          Renovating and / or adding to the existing Town Hall on 30 Ferry Street.

-          New Town Hall on Route 32 next to the Town Garage.

-          Purchasing the Old School Building in Schuylerville and renovating as required

by the space and planning needs.

The design requirements were for a 10,000 square foot facility, which would “contextually” respect the three site design locations. Other concerns were the building life cycle and building / construction budgets for each of the four concepts. The facility was required to integrate technologies and materials, which were environmentally friendly and further the long-term durability issues of both building and site context. The building design shall integrate natural site features and landscaping based on each site and the potential Town functions anticipating future growth.

The design was not intended to be final, but rather provide realistic design ideas of building massing / size as they relate or / are influenced by the different site locations. This information was then intended to be presented to the public for a possible referendum vote sometime either in the late Fall of 2006 or Spring of 2007.
