1.    Occupancy Use – R-2 Apartment Houses (Section 310.1 – p. 31).

2.    Requirement Section 1009 – Emergency Escape and Rescue – 1009.1

a.    Basements and sleeping rooms below the fourth story shall have at least one exterior emergency escape and rescue opening in accordance with this section.

b.   Escape and opening is permitted to open onto a balcony.

3.    1009.2 Minimum size – Emergency Escape and Rescue openings shall have a minimum net clear opening of 5.7 SF

a.      At grade it may be 5 SF

4.       1009.2.1 Minimum dimensions –

         a.      Clear opening height = 24”

         b.      Clear opening width = 20”

1009.3 Maximum height from floor – bottom not greater than 44” above finished floors.
